EREWHON THEATRE
Young audiences will enjoy a theatrical story-telling of Wind in the Willows and Velveteen Rabbit with Kathryn Popham of Ontario’s Erewhon Theatre.
VELVETEEN RABBIT (Grades K - 3)
The beautiful tale by Margery Williams is a modern children’s classic, in which a stuffed toy rabbit learns what it means to be REAL. This splendid dramatic adaptation portrays a young child’s world of special toys. “When a child loves you for a long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you become REAL”, explains the Skin Horse in the story. This presentation, with its lovely masks, puppets and props is an excellent introduction to the world of theatre.
This play captures the rapt attention of younger students without talking down to them, and suggests many ideas for their own creative work. Ten of your students will play the parts of toys in the show. They will rehearse their roles during the half hour before the performance begins
NANAIMO: VENUE TBA • Tuesday, May 13 @ 9:30 am
VICTORIA: AMBROSIA BALLROOM • Thursday, May 15 @ 9:30 am
WIND IN THE WILLOWS (Grades 4 - 6)
Everyone loves Mr. Toad, even though he has a few flaws. Practical Water Rat, sensitive Mr. Mole, and wise Badger do their best to keep him in line, as any true friends would. This humorous presentation is in essence a character study, with each animal embodying a distinct personality. Students will learn how to differentiate between diverse characters by using the voice and body.
This popular play brings to life the adventurous escapades of the four friends that live under the willow trees. Their hilarious attempts to keep Mr. Toad out of trouble, and the untrustworthy Weasels at bay, make for a great theatrical event.
Ten students will play the parts of Weasels, and will rehearse before the performance begins.
